A fake Kenyan lawyer, who made the headlines for allegedly winning 26 high profile cases before he was apprehended, has pleaded not guilty to all charges preferred against him.
The accused, Brian Mwenda Njagi, became a sensation when he was busted last week after he allegedly practiced law without qualifications and allegedly won all the cases he undertook.
However, when he appeared in court in Nairobi on Wednesday, Ngagi pleaded not guilty to charges of forging official documents to practise as a lawyer and identity theft.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) which is the prosecutor in the case, believes it has a watertight case against the accused.
“To our knowledge, Mr Mwendwa has been appearing in court for at least eight or nine months, and it’s impossible to complete that number of cases unless they are in small claims courts that are concluded within 60 days,” LSK chairman Eric Theuri, told journalists.
“Our investigations show that he has a fake law degree from Strathmore University and a bar admission letter that has a fake signature of the late chief justice Evans Gicheru, who served from 2003 to 2011,” Theuri said.
But Mwenda told the media he was innocent and says he will be vying for a parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.
He was, however, remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday.
Earlier reports of Ngagi winning all 26 cases he handled were later countered by officials in Kenya.
