Kenyan triple world record holder in the 1500m, Faith Kipyegon, once again showed her superb form after storming to her fifth career Diamond League trophy on Saturday at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA, in a meeting record of 3:50.72.

Popularly called “The Golden Girl”, Kipyegon who is the reigning Olympic and world champion, tore apart the women’s field en route to claiming another title in the last Diamond League circuit of 2023.

Kipyegon’s victory caps an outstanding season for the in-form athlete in this season’s Diamond League circuit where she previously shattered three world records in Florence, in the 1500m, Paris, in 5000m, as well as in Monaco where she triumphed in the road mile.

The mother of one defeated a strong field comprising her fiercest rivals, Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji who finished second in a Personal Best time of 3:53.93 and Great Britain’s Laura Muir who finished third in 3:55.16.

“This was amazing, starting with the World Record and now winning the trophy. It has been a fantastic year for me and I really thank God for that,” Kipyegon said after the race.

“I didn’t watch the clock, I was just running my race and see what would happen at the finish line. So it was amazing, to run a meeting record, just fantastic.” she added.

Eritrean cyclist, Biniam Girmay, has created another record after he cycled to his third victory at this year’s Tour de France in a mass dash for the line on Thursday to extend his lead in the sprint points race.

The history-making Girmay who became the first black African to win a stage on the Tour on the third day of this year’s edition at Turin, was again first on stage eight with his third triumph so far.
