Police in Las Vegas have denied reports that they are about to make an arrest for the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur after a man claimed to know the gunman who pulled the trigger and killed rapper.
The American rap legend was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996.
Local police have confirmed they are still treating Tupac’s death as an open homicide case, days after a fomer gang member Duane ‘Keefe D’ Keith came forward with new information about the incident.
During an interview for BET’s ‘Death Row Chronicles’, Keefe D – who claims to have been in the car from where the deadly gunshots were fired – said; “I was a Compton kingpin, drug dealer, I’m the only one alive who can really tell you story about the Tupac killing. People have been pursuing me for 20 years, I’m coming out now because I have cancer. And I have nothing else to lose. All I care about now is the truth.”
After the show aired, the Las Vegas Police department said they approached the former gang member to get facts straight and this week they issued a statement.

“We are aware of the statements made in a BET interview regarding the Tupac case,” the statement read.
“As a result of those statements, we have spent the last several months reviewing the case in its entirety. Various reports that an arrest warrant is about to be submitted are inaccurate. This case still remains an open homicide case.”
The “Death Row Chronicles” episode marked the second time that Keffe D told that story, and he’s repeating it because of a cancer diagnosis and having “nothing to lose.”
In addition, since that episode aired, the LVMPD said they’ve been looking at the case from new angles but despite reports, have not made an arrest warrant.
Tupac – whose murder has been the source of significant speculation over the years – died in hospital six days after he was shot four times, in the chest, arm, and thigh.
