A-rated Nigerian artistes, Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Olamide, have all been nominated for the 66th Grammy Awards which holds at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA, on February 4, 2024.
It was also a first Grammys nomination for Davido who made a bang entrance with three nominations, while previous Grammy winner, Burna Boy bagged a total of four nominations.
Davido’s other nominations are for “Timeless”, which was nominated for Best Global Music Album, and “Feel”, for Best Global Music Performance.
Asake, Arya Starr and Olamide were also nominated for the first time for the 2024 awards.
The Nigerian stars were all nominated in the maiden Best African Music Performance category, alongside South Africa’s Tyla.
In the recently introduced category, Asake and Olamide’s “Amapiano” made the list just as Burna Boy’s “City Boys”, Ayra Starr’s “Rush”, Davido and Musa Keys’ “Unavailable”, and Tyla’s “Water”.
Burna Boy’s other four nominations are for “Sitting On Top of the World” featuring 21 Savage, which was nominated for Best Melodic Rap; “I Told Them”, nominated for Best Global Music Album, and “Alone” which was nominated for Best Global Music Performance.
While celebrating his nomination, Davido took to his his X handle to write:
“3 nominations at the Grammys! Delay is not denial!”
The “OBO” crooner will however compete with compatriot, Burna Boy, Arooj Aftab, Silvana Estrada, Béla Fleck, Falu and Gaurav Shah to take home the Best Global Music Performance gong.
In the Best Global Music Album category, he will have to beat Burna Boy, Susana Baca, Shakti, and Bokante, while in the Best African Music Performance category, he will have stiff competition in Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy and South Africa’s Tyla.
