Former Ivory Coast international, Yaya Toure has distanced himself from comments made by his former agent, Dimitri Sulek about placing an “African curse” on Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola to stop him from winning a Champions League title for the English Premier League team.
In an interview with the Mirror on Monday, Sulek had said he had made some African “jujumen” to place the curse on Guardiola following his treatment of Toure in his last season at the club in 2018.
But with City set to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals first leg at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night, the controversial Ukranian agent opened up and said he has forgiven the former Barcelona manager and had told the African “Shamans” to lift the curse on not adding a third Champions League title to his collection.
“I want to apologise for this matter. I think it is time for this bitterness to stop – and I know that Yaya feels the same because he wishes nothing but success for City,” Sulek said.
“I can say that the spell has now been lifted by the Shamans – and that I think City will win the Champions League under Pep.”
But while reacting to the comments by his former agent, the 39-year-old Toure called out Sulek to keep him out of the “nonsense” claims that he helped put a curse on Guardiola.
“My former agent is being quoted by the media about a ‘curse’,” Toure wrote on Twitter.
“Please don’t associate me with this nonsense and lazy stereotypes about African curses!”
“Media… move on please. This man does not represent me in any way. Amplifying these stereotypes is harmful.”
