Ghanaian Hip-Life star, Reggie Rockstone, has recommended the capital punishment for African leaders who loot their country’s treasury and destroy their economy.
The music icon, who made the recommendation in an interview with a local radio station in Accra on Tuesday, said only such a radical approach could tackle the current economic challenges facing Ghana and Africa as a whole.
In Rockstone’s reckoning, the African continent is “grappling with severe neocolonialism and imperialism which has exacerbated the economic plight of many African nations.”
Rockstone then went ahead to recommend that such economic looters need to be shot or locked up for life over the state of the economy in their countries.
Speaking about possible solutions to the malaise that has bedevilled the African continent, Rockstone suggested a more drastic course of action, advocating the “imprisonment and execution of individuals responsible for the economic crisis, particularly those maintaining extravagant lifestyles at the expense of the populace.”
“Africa is at a standstill, and Ghana is struggling. I don’t want to hear about political parties; we need a complete overhaul. Some individuals need to be held accountable. That’s the only way forward for us, as black people,” the music star said.
“We need to set an example. Some people need to face consequences, even if it means imprisonment or worse.”
Rockstone lamented the fact that the dire situation and severity of the leadership calamity that has dogged the continent have had devastating impacts on the lives of the people and hence, drastic measures must be taken to arrest the ugly trend.
He also stressed that while music and entertainment serve as distractions, they also divert attention away from critical issues affecting the populace.
“In spite of how serious things are right now, music and entertainment distract the masses who are also easily swayed by sensational issues instead of paying attention to issues that matter,” he noted.
