Ahead of Bafana Bafana’s tie with Cape Verde on Saturday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged the national football team to ‘please us even more’ and cross the hurdle into the semi-finals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFON).

“Our Bafana Bafana has really made us proud to reach where they are; though we did not expect them to get there, it’s a really wonderful achievement. The whole nation will be rooting for them.” Ramaphosa said.

South Africa has only won the AFCON once during the 20th edition of the tournament in 1996, which was held in Tunisia. Other strong contenders still in the competition include Nigeria, the host nation, Ivory Coast, the Congo, and Mali.
