Morocco has been ranked the eighth-best African country for women to live in, affording the kind quality of life obtainable in Europe and the United States.
A report published on Monday by data website, Insider Monkey, stated that the ranking was based on professionals and experts’ studies adhering to the public’s opinion.
It noted that the research took into consideration the “quality of life according to the governance adhering to women/humanitarian equality laws, benefits and privileges, and economic situation, among other criteria.”
“In a world marked by modernization and globalization, where people connect with individuals of various nationalities and ethnicities, Morocco stands out as a country where women can thrive,” the report said.
It emphasized that despite the persisting practice of polygamous marriage in Moroccan culture, recent laws ensure equal rights for both men and women.
“Women, like men, have the freedom to choose their life partners, emphasizing equal rights for both genders. This inclusion makes Morocco one of the best African countries to live in as a woman in 2024,” the report stated.
According to the survey, though gender-based violence is still the second most important women’s rights issue for Moroccans, the North African country has made significant strides in advancing women’s rights.
“While a majority (68%) of surveyed Moroccans believe that gender-based violence is not very common or not at all common in their communities, approximately three in 10 (31%) disagree,” the survey said.
