Video: Ghana’s New Force spokesperson Abbuissi re-arrested despite dropped charges

The spokesperson for Ghana’s new political group ‘The New Force’, Shalimar Abbuissi, was re-arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service in court despite the withdrawal of charges by state prosecutors in court.

Adolf Asenso, the Assistant Commissioner of Immigration leading the prosecution, informed the court that he had been given the order to withdraw the charge sheet, prompting the Magistrate at the Keneshie District Court, Her Worship Nana Abena Owusu-Amenyo, to oblige the prayer and discharge Shalimar.

But the 30-year-old Belgian was whisked away in a security vehicle amidst protests from her lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu, also a Member of Parliament for Madina.

The allegation around her borders her falsely claiming to be a student of Ghana Christian University College in the Greater Accra region to avoid legal requirements.

Video: Ghanian lawmaker Ablakwa wants national attention on language preservation

In this video, Ghanaian parliamentarian, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, argues that issues around the preservation of language and local dialects must be treated as urgent national attention that must be escalated to the highest level by all arms of government and agencies.

“Language is so important, that is what represents our heritage, culture, and tradition. if the language goes extinct, the people are gone, their culture is gone, and their heritage is gone,” Ablakwa said.

The former Deputy Minister for Education and Information also decried the lack of personnel to impact linguistic knowledge at various levels of education.

Video: Sports minister vows support for Nigeria’s Iwobi against cyberbullying

As reactions continue to trail Nigeria’s loss in the final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to host country, Cote d’Ivoire, on Sunday, Nigerian sports minister, John Eno, has met Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, to express solidarity after a series of online abuses targeted at the player.

Iwobi has been the subject of cyberbullying over perceived underperformance against the Ivorians on Sunday. He revealed in the video that he had to take himself off social media to get over the attacks.

“I am aware of something that is going on on social media. As a ministry, we are going to make a statement against this kind of bullying, not just about you but about all our sportsmen. We are very concerned about how our sportsmen are treated,” Eno said.
