Nigerian music sensations, Davido and Tiwa Savage have been pencilled down alongside Tanzanian superstar, Diamond Platnumz to perform at the maiden edition of the Giants of Africa Youth Basketball Festival billed for Kigali, Rwanda, from August 13 to 19.
According to co-founder of the basketball festival, Masai Ujiri, who is the President of NBA team, the Toronto Raptors, the week-long event will bring together more than 250 youths from 16 countries in celebration of Giants of Africa’s 20th anniversary.
Ujiri who made the disclosure at a press conference on Thursday, said the Giants of Africa was a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of African youths through sports.
“The Giants of Africa Festival represents a momentous milestone for our organisation – we will celebrate 20 years of empowering youth and we will honor the incredible communities that have welcomed us,” the Kenyan-born former NBA star said.
“Through this festival, we aim to inspire and encourage the youths, while acknowledging their immense potential and the collective effort to create positive change.
“We are honored to have artistes including Davido, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz and more join us for the opening ceremony celebration and closing concert, as we believe their performances will further ignite the spirit of the festival and uplift the aspirations of the local youth in attendance.”
He added that the key themes for the event included basketball, education, culture, and entertainment, as the festival strives to unite and celebrate the next generation of leaders across Africa.
Participants will come from Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana, South Sudan, Morocco, Cameroon and Mali.
