Mauritania appoints ex-Comoros manager, Amir Abdou, as new coach

Published

on

The Mauritanian football federation on Wednesday announced Amir Abdou, who is the former Comoros head coach, as the new manager of its national men’s football team.

Amir takes over from the now-former Frenchman Didier Gomes Da Rosa who has been linked to the poor results of the Mauritanian team.

“Following consultations and exchanges with the highest authorities of the State, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Relations with Parliament, the Executive Committee of FFRIM have taken the following restructuring measures: Terminate the functions of the national coach, Mr Didier Gomes Da Rosa and his entire technical staff; appointment of Mr Amir Abdou as the national coach and new technical staff for the national teams, “read the statement.

This comes after the national team was eliminated at the group stage of last year’s Arab cup and unconvincing performance during last month’s AFCON competition in Cameroon.

Amir’s main target will be to help the national team qualify for the 2023 AFCON competition in 2023 in Ivory Coast.

Ndidi, Iheanacho, Daka suffer relegation with Leicester City

Published

on

The three African players at Leicester City, Nigerian internationals, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, as well as Zambian striker, Patson Daka, will have to contend with Championship football next season as Leicester was relegated from the English Premier League on Sunday.

Despite defeating West Ham 2-1 in the final game of the season, Leicester were relegated following Everton’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth.

Iheanacho grabbed an assist in the West Ham win but it was not enough to stop Leicester City from being relegated from the Premier League.

While Ndidi and Daka were missing from the game through injury, Iheanacho started and played 77 minutes, providing an assist for Harvey Barnes’ opening goal in the eventual 2-1 win.

His assist and the eventual win for Leicester on the final day were not enough to rescue their season however, as Everton’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth ensured that they finished above Leicester in the final non-relegation place in the league.

If they remain with the team next season, the African trio will face the ignominy of playing in the lower cader of English football.
