Former Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, Justice Christopher, on Wednesday, slummed and died in a hotel at Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria.
Report of his death broke in the early hours of Wednesday.
Christopher was said to have featured in a social football game a day before his demise. Official report as to circumstance that led to his demise is still unknown.
The former Nigerian midfielder captained Nigeria’s U-20 in 2001, made his senior national team debut same year, and went to accrue 11 caps.
He was part of Nigeria’s squad at the Africa Cup of Nations, Mali 2002 and Japan/Korea World in 2002.
The Nigeria Football Federation in a released statement said:
“We are devastated to hear of the sudden passing away of former @NGSuperEagles midfielder Justice Christopher early on Wednesday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and football community in Nigeria. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
His former teammate and one the Super Eagles assistant coach, Joseph Yobo has paid tribute to his “close friend”.
“My family and I are deeply saddened by the awful news that my close friend Christopher has passed away. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Yobo said.
Christopher began his senior career at Katsin United in 1999. He had a spell at Sharks and Bendel Insurance, before signing for Royal Antwerp.
His body has been deposited at the Plateau Specialists hospital, where autopsy will be carried out.
