Video: Kenya’s Ruto plans bonuses for sugar cane farmers

Published

In this video, Kenyan President, William Ruto, revealed that the country would begin payment of bonuses to sugar cane farmers, just like their tea counterparts.

Ruto stated that he saw the policy through despite legal confrontation against it, noting that the government had begun setting up a sugar marketing agency, replicating the Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited (KTDA) in the tea sector with a clear dividend payout policy.

For each kilogram of green leaf delivered to the agency’s facilities, tea farmers associated with the Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited (KTDA) got an increase in their monthly tea payments in December.
