Liverpool and Egypt star, Mohamed Salah has made a donation to the Gaza Strip following bombardments by Israeli ground and airstrikes which have left at least 3,478 people killed and more than 1,250 injured since Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7.
The Egyptian captain also called for humanitarian aid to be allowed into Hamas-controlled Palestinian enclave, as well as imploring world leaders to “immediately” help put an end to the fighting.
The Egyptian Red Crescent, a charity that provides medical services and humanitarian aid, confirmed that Salah had made a donation to help its relief efforts in Gaza.
“Thank you, Mohamed Salah, for his donation to support the people of the Gaza Strip. Thank you from the heart,” the charity wrote on Facebook.
Salah, who is unarguably one of the highest-profile Muslim footballers in the world, made the donation to the Egyptian Red Crescent and reportedly called on other players in the North African country to do what they could to assist the Gaza community.
The star player also took to his social media accounts to plead for an end to the violence in the region.
“It’s not always easy to speak in times like these. There has been too much violence and too much heartbreaking brutality. The escalation in recent weeks is unbearable to witness. All lives are sacred and must be protected. The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart,” he pleaded.
“What is clear now is that humanitarian aid to Gaza must be allowed immediately. The people there are in terrible conditions.”
Also speaking on the airstrike that hit a hospital in Gaza where over 500 people were killed, Salah said:
“The scenes at the hospital were horrifying. The people of Gaza need food, water and medical supplies urgently.
“I’m calling on the world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of all innocent souls. Humanity must prevail.”
