Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday reshuffled the portfolios of four ministers-designate, while assigning new portfolios to the ministers ahead of their inauguration on Monday.
The affected ministers in the reshufflement include Adegboyega Oyetola, who was moved from the Ministry of Transportation to the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, while Olubuni Tunji-Ojo who was initially assigned to the ministry, will now take charge of the Ministry of Interior.
Saidu Alkali who was assigned to the Interior Ministry will take over the Ministry of Transportation, while Abubakar Momoh, who was named the Minister of Youth, has been moved to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development following an outcry by majority of Nigerian youths on account of his age.
As part of the shakeup, Tinubu also reinstated the Niger Delta Ministry which was initially scrapped, while two other ministers-designate, Heineken Lokpobiri and Ekperikpe Ekpo, had their portfolios adjusted, with both named as Ministers of State in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
In a statement by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale announcing what he described as a minor shake-up, said:
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Engr. Abubakar Momoh from the Federal Ministry of Youth to the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development.
“The Ministers-Designate allocated to the Federal Ministries of Transportation, Interior, and Marine and Blue Economy have been reshuffled as follows: (A) Adegboyega Oyetola is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy; (B) Bunmi Tunji-Ojo is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Interior; and (C) Sa’idu Alkali is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Transportation
“Furthermore, both Ministers of State in the oil & gas sector are now domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources with the following designations: (i) Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri is the Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources; (ii) Ekperipe Ekpo is the Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources.
“The President approved the renaming of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management as the Federal Ministry of Environment.
“All aforementioned changes take immediate effect by these directives of the President.”
The ministers-designate took their oaths of office on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, administered by Tinubu.
Following the exercise, President Tinubu has officially constituted his cabinet with the swearing in of 45 ministers on Monday at the State House Conference Center, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The swearing-in process, which was carried out in seven separate batches consisting of several ministers, saw the first batch comprising of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State Gas in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy, and Minister of Education Tahir Maman.
In attendance at the inauguration were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Kwara State Governor, Abdulaziz Abdulrahman, as well as top politicians and government officials.
