Tanzanian music icon, Diamond Platinumz, practically brought down the roof on Sunday with his electric performance during the opening ceremony of the Giants of Africa Basketball tournament at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
The opening ceremony of the event, which had in attendance President Paul Kagame, convener of the tournament, former NBA star, Masai Ujiri, Rwandan Sports Minister, Aurore Mimosa, and BAL President, Amadou Gallo Fall, afforded Platinumz another opportunity to wow his fans.
The week-long festival of the Giant of Africa, which is in its 20th year, brought together 250 youths from 16 African countries to take part in sports, entertainment, and cultural activities, among others, is a celebration of diverse African heritage, according to the organisers.
The participants are drawn from African countries like Botswana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, South Sudan, Senegal, Kenya, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, among others, and will, aside from sports, showcase their talents in dances as well as with afro centric attires with the colors of their national flags, in a celebration of African heritage.
But the star of the show was the 33-year-old Platinumz who made sure the audience, including Kagame, refuse to be glued to their seats as they hit the arena displaying different dance styles.
The Tanzanian star brought the roof down when he performed his most popular hits including “Jeje”, “Inama”, “Tetema”, and “Why” in which he collaborated with Rwandan artiste, The Ben.
