Video: Nigeria’s sacked Central Bank governor, Emefiele arrested

Following the suspension of Nigeria’s Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, a video has surfaced online showing the controversial official being led into an aircraft by an officer of the Department of State Services dangling a handcuff.

According to a statement by the secret police’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Peter Afunanya, on Saturday, “The Department of State Services (DSS) confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.”

Emefiele’s tenure was dogged by allegations of partisan politics, multiple exchange rates, and a currency redesign policy which led to cash scarcity in the build-up to the general elections in February.
