The fourth edition of the “Africa in Colors” festival is set to return to Rwanda where some of the country’s most talented artistes will showcase their talents.
The last edition of the festival saw one of France’s biggest hip-hop stars, La Fouine lighting the stage, and according to the organizers, will once again be part of the 2023 edition of the event.
The festival, which is scheduled to take place between September 7 and 11, is expected to attract people from more than 40 countries around the world, according to Raoul Rugamba, the main organizer of the festival.
At a press conference on Thursday, Rugumba said the “Africa in Colors” festival which is coming to Kigali for the third time, “was organised because the entertainment industry in Africa still lacks improvement and players in this sector still lack means to make it productive.”
“Globally, two billion US dollars are generated from the entertainment industry, and it is an industry that provides employment to more than 26 million people,” he said.
“But in Africa, this industry earns two per cent compared to the rest of the world. That is why we thought about how we will promote the entertainment industry in Africa through this event.”
Outlining the artistes for this year’s event, Rugumba said that the line-up would have, apart from La Fouine and top Rwandan artistes, other major African and international stars.
The Africa in Colours festival is a joint project by Africa in Colors, a Rwandan-based art initiative, and Movement of Creatives Africas (MOCA), a French based initiative represented by Cameroonian art entrepreneur, Alain Bidjeck.
The duo had, in 2020, collaborated and produced the first edition of the festival in Paris after reaching a strategic partnership agreement aimed at rethinking the “African creative ecosystem of tomorrow in order for it to impact, in a sustainable way, locally and globally.”
“At least 5,000 participants from across Rwanda, around the continent and the rest of the world are expected to participate throughout the four-day festival,” Rugumba said at the press briefing.
“Among the participants, we will have students, entrepreneurs, artists, influencers, innovators, decision makers, various national and international media houses, and many other players of the culture and creative industry from across the globe,” he added.
