Ghanaian dancers Afronita, Abigail reach Britain’s Got Talent finale

Ghanaian dancing duo of Afronita and Abigail who are competing in the 2024 edition of the prestigious British Got Talent show danced their way into the grand finale of the competition, further showcasing the vibrant culture of the West African country to a global audience with their mesmerizing performance.

According to reports posted on the website of the BGT, the “dynamic duo known for their exceptional talent and passion for dance, so captivated both the judges and the audience with their energetic and captivating routine.

“Their performance was a fusion of traditional Ghanaian dance moves with contemporary choreography, creating a unique and unforgettable experience for all who witnessed it.

“As they danced across the stage with grace and precision, Afronita and Abigail brought a piece of Ghana to the hearts of everyone watching. The duo’s performance was a celebration of diversity, unity, and the universal language of dance, transcending boundaries and connecting people from different backgrounds and cultures

“Afronita, 20 and the reality star of the moment, Abigail aged only 7, performed a medley of popular hits including Fuse ODG’s “Azonto,” Beyoncé’s “Run The World,” and Toofan’s “Gweta” among others.

“Their performance earned them a standing ovation, leaving the crowd excitedly showering them with praise even during the judges’ evaluation statements.

“Looking at you makes me happy, you really are a tonic for the spirit. Your individual style of dancing is so unique and beautiful, your musicality is out of this world and your personality really shines through. Love you, love you,” Britain’s Got Talent judge Bruno Tonioli told the African dancers after their semi-final performance.”

To the surprise of many, the most tough judge Simon Cowell praised the duo Afronita and Abigail, stating:

“When you’ve got it, you’ve got it. I think what is happening behind me is more important than what I say,” Cowell said.

Afronita and Abigail will hope to repeat their electrifying performance with the hope of clinching top spot in the final on Sunday.

BBNaija Season 9 gets July kickoff date

Organisers of the Brother Naija (BBN) have announced that the Season 9 of the reality TV show will kickstart in July 2024.

In the announcement which was made in a post shared on its official X account, the organisers dropped a teaser on the theme of the edition in a creative photo.

The post was accompanied by a caption that reads, “What’s better than One? Mark your calendars!”

The announcement comes one month after it was announced that streaming of the reunion for the 2023 edition, tagged “Big Brother All-Stars”, would commence on June 24, 2024.

In the post, a creative photo of the upcoming season, accompanied by the caption, “One Sunday in July. Get ready.”

The show organiser had, in March, revealed that unlike previous editions, the season will require participants to apply in pairs dubbed, “2 To Tango.”

Tems, Tyla bag 2024 BET Awards

Nigerian and South African female singers, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, and Tyla Laura Seethal, simply known as Tyla, once again, made the continent proud when they bagged different gongs at the BET Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday.

It was Tems’ fourth and she did it in grand style by edging out top stars like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Maverick City Music, and others to win the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award with her 2023 song, “Me & U” at the 2024 ceremony.

Tems had earlier won two BET Awards in 2022 for Best International Act and Best Collaboration for Wizkid’s “Essence”.

In the 2023 edition, Tems also won the Best Collaboration award for her song with Drake and Future “Wait for U”.

South Africa’s “Ampioano” star, Tyla, however, took home two awards for Best New Artist and Best International Act.

The BET Awards, established in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, is an American award show that recognises and celebrates the achievements of Black entertainers and other underrepresented groups in music, film, sports and philanthropy.
