Domestic worker sues Pitso Mosimane, wife following debilitating injuries

Former Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Al Ahli of Egypt coach, Pitso Mosimane, and his wife, Moira Tlhagale, have been sued by their domestic worker after a severe injury at the home of the couple led to disabilities.

The domestic worker, domestic worker Dorothy Sikirivao, filed the lawsuit against Mosimane who is the current head coach of Abha Club of Saudi Arabia, claiming the sum of R5.7-million at the Johannesburg High Court after suffering from severe injuries he sustained in a mishap at the couple’s residence in April 2021.

According to reports by Sunday World, Sikirivao had a serious fall at the Mosimane’s home while clearing debris, with the accident allegedly leaving her with “catastrophic spine-related injuries, leading to a significant reduction in her mobility and affecting her reproductive health.”

The reports stated that medical specialists diagnosed Sikirivao with multiple injuries, including blood clots in the brain, shoulder dislocation, various bone fractures, and severe pressure on the spinal cord.

“The domestic worker claims the injuries were exacerbated by the demanding nature of her duties and the couple’s insistence that she return to work soon after the accident,” the tabloid wrote, quoting Sikirivao legal documents

“This was because of the tedious nature of the work she did and the potential of aggravating the injuries. The injuries she sustained from the said accident were of such a nature that exacting physical labor will aggravate them.”

The documents explained that initially, Mosimane and Tlhagale covered Sikirivao’s medical expenses but reportedly ceased payments without explanation.

“Despite being granted a month of sick leave following the incident, Sikirivao alleges she was coerced into resuming work, which worsened her condition.

“The plaintiff, post the said accident, was also prognosed to be in a situation where the plaintiff may never be able to carry a pregnancy and fulfil her desire to have her biological children except through an expensive and legally cumbersome process of surrogacy.

“Furthermore, she may face ongoing health complications due to the accident. The compensation Sikirivao seeks includes R1.7-million for loss of income, R2-million for past and future medical expenses, and R2-million divided equally for the loss of amenities of life and for pain and suffering,” the legal documents added.

Inter Miami to battle Barca, PSG, Juve, others for Mo Salah

MLS giants, Inter Miami, are set to battle the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Inter Milan, Saudi Pro League side, Al Hilal, as well as Turkish club, Galatasaray, for the signature of Egyptian captain, Mohamed Salah, as he enters his final season at Liverpool.

According to media reports in England, Salah has reportedly attracted interest from the clubs which are all monitoring the player should he become a free agent as he has not yet signed a contract extension with the Reds.

Mohamed Salah’s future has been looking shaky lately and with his contract at Anfield set to expire in the summer, he has been the subject of countless transfer rumors.

Salah also fueled speculations on Sunday after Liverpool defeated Manchester City in a Premier League match where he was quoted as saying:

“Honestly, it’s in my head. Until now, this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool, so I was just going to enjoy it.”

Salah has not backed down from fueling speculations around his future whenever the chance presented itself but nevertheless, the forward says he remains focused on the field and has not let his contract situation affect his performances

Sources close to the situation have revealed that Inter Miami have shown strongest interest in signing Salah, joining an impressive list of clubs keeping an eye on the forward.

Another Saudi Pro League side, Al Ittihad, had previously made a big move to sign the Egyptian but failed to secure the deal.

Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Mo, along with Turkish giants Galatasaray who were rumored earlier to have an offer on the table ready for the player while PSG, Juventus, and Inter Milan have also shown interest in the African star.

Death toll in Guinea stadium clash rises above 60

The death toll in clashes that occurred during a football match in Guinea on Sunday has risen above 60, authorities in the West African nation said on Monday.

The incident which led to a stampede at the Stade du 3 Avril in Nzérékoré, the country’s second largest city, also left hundreds of people, including women and children injured.

According to local media, the crowd crush happened during the final of a football tournament in honour of the leader of the country’s junta, Mamady Doumbouya, with thousands of spectators present at the stadium.

Witnesses said a disputed red card was awarded by the referee to the home team of Nzérékoré in the 82nd minute of the match, leading to a penalty but fans of the visiting Labé team invaded the pitch and threw stones, while security personnel reportedly responded by releasing teargas that enveloped the crowd, with many people running over each other in an attempt to escape.

Some reports indicate that events unravelled following a decision by the referee, who sent off two players from the visiting team, Labé, and awarded a controversial penalty kick.

“It all started with a contested decision by the referee. Then fans invaded the pitch,” one witness was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, a panel of inquiry has been set up to find those responsible as Prime Minister Oury Bah called the incident “tragic” and offered his condolences to the bereaved.

One doctor, who did not want to be named, told journalists there were “bodies lined up as far as the eye can see in the hospital”.

“Others are lying on the floor in the hallways. The morgue is full,” the doctor added.

A local journalist in Nzérékoré, Paul Sakouvogi, told the BBC that internet access in the region had been restricted, and that police were guarding the entrance to the hospital where the injured were being treated.

“I observed six police pick-ups positioned in front of the three entrances to the hospital. They allowed only the medical staff to access the hospital, while the others were told to go back the way they came,” he explained.
