Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has announced the cancellation of all his shows scheduled for December.
He took the decision on health grounds.
The “Calm Down” crooner, who made the announcement on his Instagram account on Thursday, claimed that his frequent travels and shows in 2023 had taken a toll on his health and he needed to take a break to “recuperate.”
In his post, the youngster expressed his disappointment at not being able to meet up with tight schedules, citing years of neglecting his health due to constant touring, but however, promised his teeming fans that he would bounce back in 2024.
Rema had been scheduled to tour Lagos, Abuja, and Benin City in Nigeria, while also taking part in a show in South Africa.
The 23-year-old has had a string of musical successes in 2023, with his chart-bursting single, “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez smashing multiple streaming and chart records.
In January 2023, the young artist performed his hit single with Arabian singer Dalia Mubarak at “The Joys” Award Ceremony in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In October, Rema became the first Nigerian singer to perform at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, France, while earlier in August, he sold out the 2,500 REBEL Theatre in Toronto, dazzling fans with an impressive collection of hit singles.
He also sold out the popular O2 Arena, making him the fifth Nigerian musician to achieve that feat after Burna Boy, Davido, Asake and Wizkid.
