The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the lifting of a provisional suspension it slammed on Nigerian 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan.
The suspension, which the AIU placed on Amusan for missing three mandatory drug tests, was lifted after she took her case to the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal where she was cleared of any wrongdoing just two days before the start of last month’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Immediately she was slammed with the provisional suspension, Amusan, who maintained her innocence, appealed the verdict at the World Athletics Federation’s Disciplinary Tribunal which cleared her of any offence in a unanimous decision.
However, the AIU has expressed its dismay at the victory of the hurdler and has proceeded with an appeal against the decision.
A statement through the head of the anti-doping body of the World Athletics Federation, Brett Clothier, said it was disappointed at the Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision in Amusan’s case, and also confirmed it had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
“The AIU filed an appeal last Friday (15 September 2023) with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision, dated 17 August 2023, that Tobi Amusan did not commit an anti-doping rule violation for Whereabouts Failures,” Clothier said in the statement posted on X.
“The AIU will make no further comment on the matter until the conclusion of the appeal,” he added.
