Former Italian international, Mario Balotelli has picked Nigerian and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen as the best striker in the world ahead of Manchester City attacker, Erling Haaland.
Balotelli who made his position known in an interview with Italian sports publication, La Gazzetta dello Sport, said though the numbers posted by Haaland in his first season with the English Premier League champions had been impressive, he would still take the Nigerian ahead of the Norwegian.
Balotelli who weighed in on what is now one of the hottest debates among world football pundits, said he rates Osimhen ahead of Haaland due to his strength, overall team play and eye for goals.
Drawing parallels between the two attackers who have been in the form of their lives, Balotelli praised Osimhen’s versatility and described him as a truly unique talent.
The Norwegian star has been in scintillating form with 36 goals in just 35 Premier League appearances, while Osimhen has notched up an impressive 25 goals in the Serie A and 30 across all competitions.
But for Balotelli, who is an ex-City player, he will vote for Osimhen any day.
Drawing parallels to his own playing style during his younger days, Balotelli stated that Osimhen had the ability to excel in all aspects of the game with his unique boy and inner abilities.
“The numbers say Haaland, but for me, it’s a matter of taste,” Balotelli said in response to who the strongest striker in the world is.
“Osimhen, for example, is special. He can do everything on the pitch, a bit like me in the green years. And then he’s a unique boy,” he added.
