The police in Ugandan Jinja City have arrested six men who were spotted in a gay video that has gone viral on social media, according to Kiira Region Police spokesman, James Mubi.
In a statement on Saturday, Mubi Mubi said the arrest of the suspects came following the 17-second video clip which has since been shared on various social media platforms, showing four of them having same-sex relations which is prohibited in the eastern African country.
The police spokesman said in the video, faces of two young men are visible, while the other two were hidden, adding that the Force is looking for more suspects because it is believed they run a big racket of homosexuality.
“Three of the men in the video clip serve the purpose of being women, while lubricants, among other fetishes, were discovered in their room,” he said.
“Using our intelligence, we have arrested six men from Mpumudde Ward, Northern Division in Jinja City; we found them in one room.”
“I appeal to the public to give us more information about other suspects. Police is playing its role, and the public should also do the same.’’
Mubi who said the six men are in custody and would soon be charged to court, added that the police is determined to break the syndicate in line with the anti-gay laws in the country.
The arrest of the six suspects brings to eight the total number of suspects arrested due to same-sex relationships after a law enacted by President Yoweri Museveni imposed life imprisonment for homosexual relations.
Under the proposed law, anyone who engages in same-sex activity or who identifies as LGBTQ could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
