Nigeria’s electoral commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared the president-elect in the West African country in a keenly contested election.
Nigeria’s 36 states in the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were won equally by the three leading candidates, twelve states each. According to the result tally, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) won twelve states, the Labour Party (LP) with same twelve states, the Peoples Democratic Party with the same twelve states, and the New Nigeria’s People’s Party (NNPP) won one state.
Breakdown of each State won by the candidates below:
Bola Tinubu (APC): Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Rivers, Niger, Kogi, Benue, Kwara, Borno, Jigawa and Zamfara
Abubakar Atiku (PDP): Osun, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Katsina.
Peter Obi (LP): Lagos, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Plateau, Nasarawa, Delta, Edo, Cross River, and FCT
Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP): Kano
Meanwhile, the president-elect, Bola Tinubu in his acceptance speech appreciated Nigerians for their support. And declared utmost respect to fellow candidates, extending the hand of friendship. This was a competitive, high-spirited campaign.
“Political competition must now give way to political conciliation and inclusive governance. During the election, you may have been my opponent but you were never my enemy. In my heart, you are my brothers.” Tinubu said.
