Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja might likely be attacked by terrorists according to the United Kingdom and the United States of America who have both warned their citizens in Nigeria on alert.
The warnings, which came in separate alerts on Sunday revealed the possibility of terrorist attacks that could affect both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Both countries said the possible areas of attack may include government buildings, places of worship and schools, and markets among other targets.
The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria wrote: “There is an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, specifically Abuja. Targets may include, but are not limited to “government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities and international organizations.”
While that the UK government also wrote that “there is an increased threat of terrorist attack in Abuja; you should stay alert, consider movements carefully, and follow the local news and the advice of security authorities.
“Attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect Western interests, as well as places visited by tourists.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed “the security advisory issued by the US Embassy in Abuja, today, October 23, 2022″ and asked that the citizens be calm as the Service had variously issued similar warnings in the past.
The DSS advised “that necessary precautions are taken by all and sundry, the populace is enjoined to remain alert and assist security agencies with useful information regarding threats and suspicious criminal acts around them.
Terrorist activities have taken an upward trend in Nigeria since the deadly Boko Haram sect based in North-Eastern Nigeria, which is also active in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon was founded in 2002.
