The draws for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals which held on Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand, has thrown African teams into very interesting groups.
The African teams that qualified for the female Mundial, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia, who all qualified directly, as well as Senegal, Cameroon and Morocco who will have to navigate their way to the tournament through playoffs, were handed tough teams in their groups.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria who have the enviable record of never missing out on any edition of the female World Cup since inception, and will be making a 10th appearance, have drawn in Group B which has Canada, Australia and the Republic of Ireland.

The Banyana Banyana of South Africa, the reigning AWCON champions, will have to test their might against Italy, Argentina and Sweden in Group G while the Shepolopolo of Zambia has their work cut out for them after they were drawn in Group C that has Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.
If they qualify from their playoffs, Morocco will face Germany, Colombia, and South Korea in Group H while Senegal will face European champions, England, Denmark and China in Group D.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will have to contend with the USA, Netherlands and Vietnam in Group E, if they qualify from the playoff group that has Portugal, and Thailand.
How the African teams were drawn:
Group B: Australia, Ireland, Nigeria, Canada.
Group C: Spain, Costa Rica, Zambia, Japan.
Group D: England, Group B playoff winner (Senegal, Haiti or Chile), Denmark, China
Group E: United States, Vietnam, Netherlands, Group A playoff winner (Portugal, Cameroon or Thailand).
