African football body, CAF, sets deadline for 2025 AFCON hosting right

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced 11 November, 2022 as the deadline for countries interested in hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF earlier in the month stripped troubled Western African country, Guinea the hosting right over the fear of insecurity fears and the country’s inability to assure the football governing body it can upgrade its facilities in time for the tournament.

Bidding is expected to be finalised including documents, proposed host cities, and government guarantees, to reach its Cairo headquarters by 16 December.

The football governing body says its inspection teams will tour bidding countries from 5 to 25 January 2023 in their quest to find a suitable replacement for Guinea.

According to a top official, of CAF, the body wants to avoid the embarrassment of awarding the event to countries who are “unable to raise good infrastructure and hospitality to show to the rest of the world”.

Algeria, Senegal, and Morocco have already indicated their intentions to bid for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
