Planet: conservationist, Rubina James calls for African participation as APAC conference kicks off in Rwanda

In this video, the Director of Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group (ABCG), Rubina James, speaks on the importance of the African Protected Area Conference (APAC) in Rwanda to the environmental destiny of Africa.

She called for African participation in the quest to safe the future of the earth as no changes can be achieved without participation of Africans themselves.

Video: Kenya’s Ruto plans bonuses for sugar cane farmers

In this video, Kenyan President, William Ruto, revealed that the country would begin payment of bonuses to sugar cane farmers, just like their tea counterparts.

Ruto stated that he saw the policy through despite legal confrontation against it, noting that the government had begun setting up a sugar marketing agency, replicating the Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited (KTDA) in the tea sector with a clear dividend payout policy.

For each kilogram of green leaf delivered to the agency’s facilities, tea farmers associated with the Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited (KTDA) got an increase in their monthly tea payments in December.

The nation in southern Africa has experienced five weeks without rain during a time when farmers most need it, and last month they proclaimed a national emergency.

“Zambia is experiencing the worst drought ever, we have not seen a drought like this for years, we have six million people that are facing difficult food shortages, we have water supply, which is supposed to drive our green energy, 25% of our energy, which is already green, is already being affected.”
